The power of social networking

Often in the news for the wrong reasons-grooming, online suicides, defamation etc etc-HSBC earlier this year succumbed to student lobbying via the internet when students began a protest blog on Facebook against overdraft interest charges that were introduced.

Students complained online that they had understood that they would have overdrafts of up to £1,500 and proposed attending each HSBC branch at the same time with the same query thereby frustrating other business.

As a result of this campaign together with PR interest in the matter HSBC decided to drop its proposed changes.
