The Temporary and Agency Workers (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Bill

The Temporary and Agency Workers (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Bill will introduce into UK legislation the principles contained in the EU Temporary Agency Workers Directive which has been mired in Europe .
There are currently over 1.4 million temporary workers in the UK .
These workers do not have equal rights to:
  •  Pay and sickness absence
  • Working time rules, including overtime, work breaks, rest periods and night work
  • Holiday entitlements
  • Working terms and conditions for pregnant women and nursing mothers
  • Protection of children and young people at work and
  • Protection against unfair dismissal.
The above will only be achieved by this private members bill if Paul Farrelly's action of March 2 gets the support of 100 MPs and despite backing of unions and Labour supporters the bill is believed to be in doubt due to reservations from such groups as the CBI and FSB.
