Flexible working rights extended

The government has accepted the Walsh review’s recommendations on extending flexible working rules to cover children up to the age of 16.
 
Currently the Employment Act 2002 provides for children under age six plus disabled children and certain dependents.
 
Whilst some SME’s have expressed dismay in how the new law will impact their business operations they may have forgotten that female employees have in effect equivalent rights through claims for indirect sex discrimination.
