The Risk Advisory group has analysed 3,700 CV’s and found that one in five CV’s give false information somewhere.
Whilst you may think the risk of being caught is low do remember that the US Chief Executive David Edmondson of The Radio Shack was dismissed as a result of misstating that 12 years earlier he had obtained a BSc. Plus strictly it is a criminal offence-effectively fraud by obtaining a financial advantage/property by a false representation.
A well drafted employment contract will provide recourse for such eventualities though of course employers should ensure they do carry out adequate procedures to minimise the risk of such candidates evading the security net and ending up being hired for sensitive positions.
Apart from interviews and references, psychometric testing and other psychological devices can be adopted to spot inconsistent answers and/or behaviour.
