Confidential information heading out the door

A recent survey by internet security firm Check Point Software concludes that nearly half of out-going employees would take confidential data and information with them despite an employer’s security policy in operation stating otherwise.

85% of respondents said it would be easy to take away such information by way of USB drives and iPods.

The issue is very contemporary and understandable but the solutions more complex and could involve:

  • Additional training;
  • Security policies being signed by all staff;
  • The coverage on such policies being extended to cover mobile devices;
  • Periodic monitoring and auditing;
  • Preventing certain documents and files from being copied or printed and
  • The removal of USB/flash drive facilities for certain types of staff;
Use of injunctive, data base and copyright claims against transgressors.
